KYW-TV, KYW (KWTV) — This is a farm bureau reporter’s dream.
In the middle of the day, he can get up at 4:30 a.m. and see the birds.
When he wakes up, he sees the farm, the animals, the chickens.
But he knows better.
“I have to be careful because there are people that go on the internet that are going to say things like that, so I’m going to try to be the little guy, not the big guy,” he said.
“We have a big chicken coops, and that’s one of our bigger coops.
We’ve had some trouble with them.
They’ve taken over.
We’re looking at it, we’re watching it, but they don’t know it yet.
I think it’s a good thing to have a bigger coop, a bigger barn.”
It’s not just about the birds, either.
It’s about the people who work here.
“People go to work here because they love chickens,” he added.
“They want to make a difference, and they want to do it on their own time, but we have to do what we have got to do to survive.”
The Kentucky Farm Bureau has been operating the chicken-farming program for more than 30 years.
For the last six years, the bureau has been at the forefront of efforts to promote agriculture, especially chickens, through outreach programs and education programs.
Kentucky Farm Bureaus director of education, Tom Loeffler, said the bureau is committed to bringing new farmers, farmers-to-be, to the state and the country.
“It’s not like we’re not in the chicken business, we just don’t see it as an industry that we want to be part of,” he told CNN.
“You can be a good farmer, you can be an effective farmer, but it’s just not in your DNA.
And that’s why we do this.”
In the past, the Bureau has helped to grow the country’s largest chicken farm, at the end of the Appalachian Trail in Georgia.
Today, it’s home to more than 200 acres of produce, eggs, beef and other meats and poultry.
Kentucky has more than 1.6 million chickens and nearly 6 million acres of pastureland, including some more than 400,000 acres of pastures and paddocks, Loefler said.
The poultry program provides some of the largest benefits for farmers in the state.
In 2017, the Kentucky Farm Bank received more than $5 million in government assistance to help farmers.
“Every year, the farm bureau gets a grant or loan to help the farmers in Kentucky,” he explained.
“And they’re able to use that to purchase more chicken feed and produce.”
“We’ve seen over time that this is a great program,” Loeflier added.
Kentucky farmer’s program, which has grown in the past decade, helps to improve the lives of farmers and their families, and the farmers and families of the state through education, programs, and a host of other programs.
For Loefele, the program is about being a good person.
“If you’re a good human being, you do what you need to do, you don’t do anything wrong, and you make a positive impact on the environment, you have a great career, you help the environment,” he stated.
“There are many ways to do that.
And we want the farmer to be that person.”
