The farmers who came up with the idea to stop milking pigs for human consumption say they’ve been overwhelmed by the reaction.
The farmers say they had to make a decision to stop feeding the pigs.
“People thought we were crazy,” said Yair Klein, who manages the Haifa Pig Farm, in Haifa.
A few days after the decision was announced, the pig farm started getting a lot of complaints.
One man, who was selling his pig for the first time in months, said he got so many calls from people demanding he stop milming pigs.
The farmer says that his biggest problem is that he doesn’t have enough money to buy pigs, and he wants to take care of his animals.
“I’m tired of having to make sacrifices to keep the pigs alive,” he said.
Klein said he’s now considering selling his pigs to a slaughterhouse, so that the pigs can be sold in a humane manner.
But he also believes that if pigs were to be killed by the government, it would make people feel better.
He added that the farmers will try to sell their pigs to farmers in the future.
“We will try, but we won’t give up,” Klein said.
